March Edition

St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary

School News

Lent

During the church’s year we get several opportunities to take a moment and reflect on our lives. Lent, which began on Ash Wednesday, is one of those occasions.

As Year 5 reminded us in their liturgical prayer, we could try to give to the foodbank or our Lenten charity, St Cuthbert’s Care. Lenten alms is collected in class. Perhaps this Lent our promise could be to think about others and try to follow Jesus’ commands and example more fully.

Wraparound Care

We have begun our after school wraparound care. Thank you to those parents who gave us feedback while we were exploring the potential of establishing this.

There are spaces available for all sessions. You can book weekly or in a block. Please contact the office if you would like more information.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

All year groups will have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss how they have settled into their year group and their progress on the afternoon of Tuesday 24 March.

We will be in touch with details about how you can make an appointment. Please do not ring the school office for an appointment. Thank you.

Sacramental Preparation

Year 4 Preparation

Some pupils in Year 4 are continuing their journey of preparation with Mrs Noble, Mrs Strong and Fr Charles. Please remember them as they prepare to receive the sacrament of reconciliation on 25 March and the sacrament of First Holy Communion on Saturday 27 June.

Uniform Reminders

Thank you for supporting our school uniform policy

  • Leggings and jogging bottoms should be navy, not black, and should not have branded logos.
  • Flared yoga pants are not always appropriate as they can get in the way if they are too long.
  • Maroon cycling shorts can be worn in warmer weather.
  • Hoodies can be plain grey and do not need the school badge, but they should not have a zip.
  • Earrings or retainers cannot be worn for PE.
  • Long hair should be tied back and hair accessories should be in the school colours.
  • Make-up, nail varnish and false nails should not be worn for school.

Friends of St Cuthbert’s

Easter Disco

Save the date: the Easter disco will be on Friday 27 March. More details will be sent out by the Friends of St Cuthbert’s.

Summer Fayre

Our summer fayre is on 19 June in the afternoon. If you know any stallholders who would like a stall, please email fscarr@stcuthbertsprimary.com.

Sunflower Competition

Sunflower packs are available from your child’s teacher. Starter kits cost £1 and include everything needed to grow your own sunflower. Who can grow the tallest?

Athlete Event

This year Sean Gaffney is visiting school for our Great Athlete Event on 18 March. Children have been given sponsor forms with their activities on.

Please return sponsor forms by 23 March. All money raised will go towards PE and outdoor equipment for school.
