Thoughtful Tuesday

I hope you all enjoyed watching the slideshow showing messages from your teachers. It was all in black and white because lots of photographs in the past were in black and white. This week we are thinking about the past. Your maths activities are based around the game of bingo which, is always a favourite when we play at school. I have included a template but lots of you will hopefully remember how we make our grid on the whiteboards. VE day was a day to celebrate and so to make our celebrations happy we are going to include colour in our decorations. Your task is to find out what colours are in the Union Jack. You might want to design your own bunting or just colour in the ones I have given you. Lots of the templates I am giving you are from a website ARTventurers where you can download a festival pack.

Have fun xxx

Tuesday’s tasks

Phonics

Watch YouTube for your daily phonics work. Today the sounds are:

Set 1 – y
Set 2 – ir
Set 3 – u – e

Card game – snap.

Using the cards you made yesterday play the traditional game snap. Share your cards out between yourself and a family member you could include some new sound cards so you have more to play with. Each player (on their turn) QUICKLY turns over the top card from their face-down pile and puts it on top of the face up pile saying the sound out loud. When someone turns over a card that matches the card on top of another player’s face up pile, the players race to be the first to say “Snap!” ( I hope this makes sense!)

Literacy We are saying thank you to lots of people at the moment and I’ve included a poster for you to colour to say thank you to all those people who were involved in any of the wars. Some of your older relatives might have memories of that time. My granda was a soldier in the army. He is not alive now but I’ve still got photographs of him in his uniform. Could you think of some questions you could ask some relatives to find out if any of your family members were in the war ? You could design your own poster.
Maths The game we are going to play today to help our number brain is bingo. This is a favourite game that we play at school and you don’t need a bingo machine to play it. Decide what numbers you are going to work with. You might decide to just use numbers up to 20. Write all of those numbers on separate pieces of paper – you could practise forming your numbers correctly. Put these into a box or bag. You then need to make a grid so you have 6 boxes (you might decide to have 4 boxes). Then decide what numbers to put in your boxes. Try to play with your family one person picks the numbers out of the box/bag while others mark the numbers off on their grids. The first person to get all of their numbers calls BINGO!
Other areas of learning On Friday lots of people are going to celebrate VE day at home. You could make some decorations to decorate your homes. Lots of the colour of the decorations are based on the colour of the Union Jack which is the flag of the United Kingdom. Can you find out the colours to use?
