On Friday, Year 6 were treated to a visit from local author, Adam Bushnell. We had a go at describing a rainforest and using some ambitious vocabulary. Adam brought his pet tortoise, Jet, and we used him to help us make descriptions of different animals. We wrote clues about the animals and read them out having a go at guessing …

This afternoon, Year 5 have been doing a scientific experiment to find out which materials made good thermal insulators. We tried three different materials and checked the temperature of the water after 3, 6 and 9 minutes. We really enjoyed learning how to read the thermometers and predicting which material would keep the water the warmest.

This week we had a visit from author Adam Bushnell. We’ve been learning about Meerkats in class and with Adam we found out some interesting facts. Then we wrote our own storyboard about a meerkat. We had lots of fun and can’t wait to see Adam again.

We had a lovely day on Wednesday celebrating St Cuthbert’s Day. We went to church and found out some interesting facts about St Cuthbert. On the afternoon, we enjoyed eating ice cream with our friends.

Reception class have been learning all about night and day. We have now moved owe have been learning all about shadows. This morning, we went to the big yard and we drew around our friend’s shadow. As we are in the season of Lent, Reception class have been busy making and carrying out their Lenten promises. Yesterday we visited church to look and the stations of the cross. We listened to the story of Good Friday and said prayers as we visited each station. Mrs Wilkinson thought we were very good at reflecting and praying.

Well done to all of our children who received certificates, awards and house points this week.

Just a reminder to all parents that school finishes at 1:30pm on Thursday 28th March for the Easter holidays. We return to school on Monday 15th April.

Year 2 had a lovely day celebrating St Cuthbert’s Day. We went to church, then we found out some facts about St Cuthbert and on the afternoon we all enjoyed an ice cream.

In Year 2 we have been looking at micro habitats for our science topic . We went over to our allotment to have a look under logs and flowers to see what we could find.

Year 3 really enjoyed celebrating St Cuthberts Day. The day started with a lovely celebration in church. We then enjoyed a surprise visit from the ice cream man in the afternoon .

Wow! What a day for Lyra (y4) and Ava (y6). After qualifying back in October for County Finals, the girls both went on Friday to represent the Easington District in cross country. On Thursday, children from years 4 and 6 headed off to East Durham College to participate in a basketball skills session and a competition. As always our children were true ambassadors of St.Cuthbert’s and represented our school, showing excellent sportsmanship, resilience and teamwork.
