Living life as an Ancient Greek

Today a special visitor from Ancient Greece arrived. Adam the Ancient Greek set us lots of different activities. We found out about the life of a hoplite soldier and about the relationship between the Athenians and the Spartans.
The Battle Formations and Tactics session was the highlight of the day, where the children got their very own spear and shield to use. We learnt about the famous formations and battle tactics that the Greeks used to conquer lands far and wide, such as the phalanx formation.
We enjoyed playing Greek Board Games which were the same as what the Greeks would have had around 2000 years ago! We also found out what it was like to be a Greek Scribe  we were set the challenge to write in Ancient Greek on real papyrus paper, using reed pens and ink, just like the Ancient Greeks did all those years ago! We took part in a game where we took on the role of members of the city council in Athens. Using real-life scenarios of what actually happened during the Peloponnesian War, we had to make decisions on what they should do to respond to certain situations. Unfortunately some of our decisions were not good ones!!
