Our A Team played their final football match for St. Cuthbert’s tonight. As they finished runners up in the Seaham and District Primary Schools Football League, they played a presentation match against the winners, Ryhope Juniors.

It was an excellent match filled with great shots and great saves. Ryhope went 2-0 in the first half but our boys were able to pull 2 goals back in the second half and the match finished 2-2. This seemed a fitting end to the season as the league had been very close – only 1 point between winners and runners up!

A huge well done to all of the players, they have conducted themselves wonderfully throughout the season and have demonstrated excellent sporting values. We could not be prouder of the whole team.

Also, a thank you to grown-ups who have taken children to matches and washed dirty kits. We could not do this without your support.

A special mention to one of our referees. Joe Ward has been refereeing children’s school football for over 60 years. This year, the league have bought a new trophy and named the A Team winners cup The Joe Ward League Cup. We are very thankful to Joe and the other referees for giving up their time to referee for our children. We would not be able to provide the children with the tournament opportunities they have if it wasn’t for volunteers like Joe.
