4.5.20 weekly summary

Good Morning Year 4,
Hope you have had a good weekend and are ready to start work. The good news is that we’re only setting tasks for 4 days this week. Friday is a holiday! Do you know why we’re not working on Friday? Well done if you know it’s the 75th anniversary of V.E Day . If you don’t know what that means don’t worry as most activities will be based around learning about VE Day and hopefully leading towards some sort of celebration! So here’s a list of ideas to get you started. Look out each day for specific assignments/ tasks to help you.

1. Do the Comprehension task first to get some background knowledge and understanding. ( Mon.)

2. Look at The Royal British Legion website link below to help you find out more. (Mon.)

https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance/teaching-remembrance

3. Start to plan a VE Day celebration party! It might be just for your family at home or it could include other family or friends that you would be able to Zoom or Face time or Skype? Create an invitation and send it to some grown-ups in your family that might want to join in with your celebration. You will need to include the date and time of your party gathering and you will need to know the addresses of people to send the invitation to. Imagine how delighted they’ll be to receive an invitation through the post! So you need to do this on Monday or Tuesday at the latest! (Mon.)

4. Look at a real photo from the time, using historical sources as evidence from the past. (Tues.)

5. Begin to plan the party in detail. What music will you play? Maybe some Glen Miller? Can you find out about dances like the Lindy hop and have a go! What food could you have? Perhaps research some wartime recipes or just make simple party food that you can help with. Could you decorate the room or go outside if the weather is fine, make some bunting or flags. I’ve posted some slides in other assignments that might help you. ( Tues.)

6. I’d like you to do a Learning Log, allowing you to explore and present as you choose. As always you must include some writing but then you can be creative just like you always do with the Learning Log Work. (Wed.)

7. Do some colouring, wordsearch puzzles or code cracking ( Wed. )

8. Design and make a VE Day Medal or a medal that you’ll give to someone when our distancing is over? A medal for someone who deserves a thank you in the current situation! Maybe write a prayer about something or someone you are thankful for? ( Thurs.)

9. Other VE Day Celebration preparation – make bunting, do some baking, dance or singing practice. (Thurs.)

I would still encourage you to watch the Bitesize tv programmes for 7 -9 as it’s a good source of learning. Also occasionally do some of the usual stuff – Reading Plus, your journal and some times tables work. I’ll set some Maths each day as usual.
